The review on Frog and Toad
by Quah Kim Lan

Frog and Toad are two very good friends. Frog is sensible and loves the outdoor. On the other hand, Toad is obstinate and prefers to be in bed. Nevertheless, they get along extremely well. They help each other out, share things between themselves and often play together. They are always concern about each other's well-being. There is no ill-feeling or jealousy in any of the stories. You can only find love, warmth, thoughtfulness and humour. Children would find themselves in familiar ground with the adventures or misadventures of Frog and Toad. Everyday events are used in the plot to deal with situations common to children, such as procrastinating, searching high and low for a lost item when it is actually nearby and taking words literally. Adults may find themselves guilty of one or two habits in the stories.

Although this set of books functions as early readers, it feels every bit a set of entertaining story books. Frequently used words are repeated, a common feature in readers, but the engaging stories eliminated the sense of drag usually associated with such drills. The sentences are short and well-spaced. Illustrations can be found on almost every page, helping to pique the children's interest. Suitable for children who are ready to read by themselves.
